Goals and Objectives
1to1 Rehab and 1to1 Therapy Services are committed to excellence and continuous improvement. We value the special expertise of our rehabilitation service providers in providing quality treatment for clients.
We endeavour to attract and maintain service providers with experience and clinical excellence and we have an educational plan which fosters quality service provision. The pursuit of ongoing educational opportunities are encouraged for the service providers.
1to1 is actively involved in developing new methodology and treatment for physical, functional, sensory and communication disorders and we place special emphasis on the need for community based therapy that provides individual clients with equal opportunity access to excellent quality service.
We strive to attract experienced service providers that are able to respond to community needs for the variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and by offering services in a number of languages.
Our service providers will actively advocate for their clients’ needs, and put their needs as goals for service delivery. We have developed a Client Service Policies and Procedures document that includes a clients’ bill of rights, client consents, and addresses multicultural and multilingual services. Through their clients and families and other community associations, 1to1 has extensive links with community advocacy groups.
1to1's treatment is based on specific goals for the individual client and progress is tracked to give measured outcomes.
We have developed a comprehensive risk management program that address the identification, reduction and elimination of risks for clients and service providers. Our service providers are given education support for risk identification and reduction and actively work to reduce the risks that their clients face while maintaining the strictest respect for our comprehensive policies and procedures dealing with privacy, consents and confidentiality, written and verbal reports and complaints.
Ensuring Quality Care 1to1 is committed to quality care for clients. 1to1 continually analyzes data and makes quality improvements for achieving goals and objectives for client care services, professional standards, administrative and financial efficiency, risk management, technological support, and collaboration with community partners.
Accreditation
1to1 Rehab and 1to1 Therapy Services received accreditation from Accreditation Canada for a three year period in April 2010. Accreditation Canada summarized: "1to1 Rehab has a strong reputation and is an attractive employer, resulting in a strong core of clinical expertise. The organization has demonstrated quality and risk management intentions with initiatives such as the standardization of assessment tools, measurement of goal attainment, and interdisciplinary education sessions. 1to1 Rehab has created a very effective communication system in the form of the Intranet. All staff and contractors feel well informed and connected via messages and the resource database ( an excellent resource library) that is available. The clinical leads monitor performance of clinicians using annual quality assurance
accompanied visits. These evaluations by the clinical leads include clinical, "clinical- administrative" performances, as well as patient safety procedures. Workers and partners appear to be satisfied with communication by the management of 1to1 Rehab.
The organization has a history and reputation of involvement in regional projects, along with a reputation for quality of its clinicians and services. The organization has defined its clinical strengths and is building on those to guide future growth. The organization is well connected to the community and participates actively in a variety of collaborative initiatives to respond to need. There is strong community support for the organization and for the quality of service it delivers. Therapists work as effective multidisciplinary teams and communicate regularly with one another to ensure that services are complementary and respond to the clients' needs."
1to1 Rehab was accredited in 2005 for a five-year period with the Canadian Accreditation of Service Programmes, promoting excellence in the delivery of speech-language pathology services compliance with national standards and a voluntary process of self-evaluation and peer review.
The accreditation review indicated that 1to1 was innovative and flexible in responding to requests for services; clinical service delivery and program administration were strongly organized. Of particular note, was the strength in the area of equipment and technical support. 1to1 has a strong mentorship program to contracted service providers and continuing education was viewed as a high priority for quality service delivery.
1to1 was found to have fostered a collegial environment of networking and exchange among staff, a measure of which was reflected in the consistency of staff retention.
Teaching
1to1 Rehab promotes teaching in rehabilitation. We have an affiliation with several Universities for student clinical placements including the University of Toronto Masters of Health Speech Language Pathology, University of Western Ontario,State University of New York Fredonia College Masters of Speech Language Pathology, Nova Southeastern University (Florida), Ithaca College Master of Science Speech Language Pathology, and Georgian College for Communication Disorders Assistant Programs.
1to1 has also mentored an internationally trained graduate of a speech language pathologist program in preparation for licensure. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists contracting with 1to1 have also taken students from University of Toronto.
